Catherine supports family through complex inquest.

Catherine Pinnegar, Inquest and Medical Negligence specialist at Wollens solicitors, represented the wife and children of a deceased man who caused an explosion destroying the family home and put the lives of his family and members of the Police Force at risk.

Those instructing had long suffered from controlling and abusive behaviours including emotional, physical, psychological, surveillance, financial depravation and threats of violence. Things escalated when the wife initiated divorce proceedings. The deceased began to stockpile fuel, cancelled the home insurance and made explicit threats to ruin the family.

In September 2022 following a day of aggression and police intervention, the deceased barricaded himself in his bedroom, petrol then began to pour through the ceiling below of the room he was in. The Police evacuated the house and a few moments there was a large explosion that destroyed most of the property. The family escaped with their pets and the clothes they were wearing.

The psychological and practical impact on the family has been profound, all 3 of them continue to receive trauma therapy and support for complex PTSD.
