Case Study

Hannah Goodman is a Paralegal in our Clinical Negligence team has reached a settlement of £6,000 on behalf of a client who suffered negligent treatment of cosmetic dental work.

The client initially sought to have their front teeth levelled out, have their teeth whitened, and their two fillings changed to white for cosmetic purposes. Their dentist assured that he could create the ‘perfect smile’ through a treatment plan of composite fillings, composite bonding, and whitening.

Despite being told both the fillings and the bonding would last for a minimum of 7 years, the client’s fillings became painful after a few days and developed cysts a few months later, with the bonding on the front teeth becoming chipped and frequently cutting her mouth, causing a great deal of pain and discomfort.

Seeking remedial treatment for their pain, the client saw a different dentist who advised that due to the poor quality of the work she had had done, she would need to have two teeth removed and replaced with implants, and would also need 6 filling; work which would come at a substantial cost to the client. The dentist also noted that the client should never have been offered composite bonding and should have instead been considered for porcelain veneers.

The client said: Honestly Hannah I couldn’t have done this without you, your patience kindness and work you put in to see this through. Hopefully I never need to use solicitors again but if I do then I definitely know where to come.’

How can we help?

Many people who have cosmetic dental treatment find that the results are not as promised.  If you believe the standard of care that you received surrounding your cosmetic treatment fell below that of a reasonable standard, you may be eligible to make a clinical negligence claim.
