We firmly believe that our trainees are the future of Wollens. We see a training contract as an investment in each individual and an investment in our future success.
We are one of the leading law firms in the South West – highly regarded and with nearly 200 bright minds in offices across Devon : in South Devon, North Devon and Exeter. Our diverse team of brilliant people provide the full spectrum of legal services and specialist expertise across private and commercial matters.
We’re the A-Z, the ABC and 1, 2, 3 of legal advice. From our origins in the 19th century advising Devon landowners, farmers and sea traders, we’ve grown into one of the largest solicitors in the South West, with exceptional specialists across private client matters as well as company and commercial law.
We’ve won a number of awards over the last few years, rewarding the hard work and dedication of our talented staff. They work exceptionally hard to maintain the standards of “Great service, every lawyer, every time.”
A diverse family united by a common goal. We’re from all walks of life, but we’re kindred spirits when it comes to our aim of being the complete opposite of a stereotypical lawyer. We always try to give our clients less waffle, more clarity and no grey areas in between. What’s more we treat our clients as an equal – our relationships are open and honest, built on trust and dialogue. We call it Full Spectrum Law. We think in full colour but keep things black & white.
We are a firm that engages with our local communities, offering quality advice and excellent client service, and our clients recommend us because of who we are. Our people are at the heart of our business and attracting, developing and retaining the right team is paramount to our success and further growth.
We have the benefit of being in an amazing location, whilst undertaking complex and rewarding work nationally and locally. With a training plan that aims to progress a trainee’s career, not just tick a box, and a high retention rate of our trainees on qualification, you need look no further for your future career in law.

You will not be here to be the office junior, but to get fully involved in the work and the cases we deal with. There is no better way to learn.

What our trainees have to say
Having had the benefit of working at the firm for some time before my training contract started, I was sure that Wollens was the right firm for me and my future career goals. Those who you will work closely with take the time to explain and teach their technical knowledge, allowing you to have a hands-on approach with clients. As you rotate through at least four seats of the training contract, each department makes a real effort to include you in the social aspects of the department, so you never feel out of place.” Beth Donnelly, Trainee Solicitor
I have always found that Wollens allow and encourage their trainees to have a substantial amount of client contact from the beginning of each seat within the training contract. It is a busy working environment with ample opportunity to sit in on client meetings, through which you build confidence to then meet with clients on your own. I have found this to be an extremely useful way of building and developing the knowledge obtained on the LPC.” Faye Newcombe, Trainee Solicitor
“The firm offers a great environment to learn from others and provides you with opportunities and early responsibility in dealing with clients and your own cases. The variety of the work is immense, and the firm’s open-door policy gives you a real sense of a supportive and engaging law firm, where your skills and experience are nurtured and developed to maximise your potential.” Rob Newton, Trainee Solicitor
