At Wollens we believe that sustainability is fundamental to the long-term success of our business and the communities we are a part of.  It’s not enough to pay lip service, we need to actively engage and demonstrate our commitment to reducing our carbon footprint over a sustained period of time. That’s why we’re accredited by Planet Mark.

Planet Mark is an internationally recognised sustainability certification for every type of organisation. A Planet Mark certification recognises continuous improvement, encourages action and builds an empowered community of like-minded individuals who make a world of difference.

In this crucial Decade of Action, we want to ensure that we are a force for good: positively transforming society and the planet by measuring our own impact on the environment.

As a holder of the Planet Mark Certification we deliver results that go beyond compliance, reaching new levels of sustainability and engaging with our people in the process. By becoming a member of Planet Mark, we are also contributing to the UN SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) as it’s important, now more than ever, for us to do better and create a sustainable future.

Our carbon footprint for the year 2021-2022 is as follow: –

We’re also extremely proud of our employee’s  social value contribution. The Social Value measurement looks at social, environmental and economic activities such as people, community and volunteering, donations, procurement, and positive environmental impact. Our total Social Value contribution for 2021-2022 was £236,343, 2.2% of turnover and £1997 per employee.

The Sustainable and Development Goals (SGDs), also know as the Global Goals, are a collection of goals set by the United Nations. They cover a broad range of social and economic development issues. These include poverty, hunger, health, education, climate change, gender, equality, water, sanitation and energy.

By measuring and reducing our carbon footprint with Planet Mark, we can directly and measurably contribute to these SDG’s. Our report for this year is below.

Planet Mark is partners with Cool Earth, the award-winning charity that works alongside indigenous communities to halt rainforest destruction, to protect an acre of rainforest for every new certification it delivers. The pledge through Cool Earth goes directly towards supporting the Asháninka community in Central Peru in order to support communities, prevent carbon emissions, preserve wildlife, and keep Earth’s climate in balance. Planet Mark also has a long-standing partnership with The Eden Project, to which a considerable donation is made to support educational sustainability programmes.

The judges recognised that at Wollens we believe that sustainability is fundamental to the success of our business and communities. Being part of Planet Mark – an internationally recognised annual sustainability certification has allowed us to build a clear pathway toward the goal of becoming a net-zero law firm.
