At Wollens we believe that sustainability is fundamental to the long-term success of our business and the communities we are a part of.  It’s not enough to pay lip service, we need to actively engage and demonstrate our commitment to reducing our carbon footprint. That’s why we’re accredited by Planet Mark. 

Since joining Planet Mark In 2022 we been actively engaging, measuring and introducing new initiatives to help reduce our Carbon footprint. Our reduction of 9.6%, which is above our target for the year, shows our commitment to sustainability. In addition to the 9.6% reduction in our carbon footprint, we’ve offset our emissions by partnering with Carbon Neutral Britain and are now a certified Carbon Neutral Business.

This year, we’ve seen a reduction in paper usage of 34%. We’ve installed Solar Panels on our North Devon office saving 7000kg of CO2 emissions each year. We power our business on 100% renewable energy tariffs, and we’ve engaged with Binnit to ensure none of our waste goes into landfill. 320 hours of commuting time and associated emissions are saved each week though our working from home policy, and we donated over £17,000 to various charitable causes last year. We are doing a lot, but there is a lot more to do. 

We’re also extremely proud of our employee’s social value contribution. The Social Value measurement looks at social, environmental, and economic activities such as people, community and volunteering, donations, procurement, and positive environmental impact. Our total Social Value contribution for 2022-2023 was £236,560, 2 % of turnover and £1793 per employee.

In this crucial Decade of Action, we want to ensure that we are a force for good: positively transforming society and the planet by measuring our own impact on the environment.

We are also contributing to the UN SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) as it’s important, now more than ever, for us to do better and create a sustainable future.

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), also known as the Global Goals, are a collection of 17 interrelated goals set by the United Nations. They cover a broad range of social and economic development issues. These include poverty, hunger, health, education, climate change, gender, equality, water, sanitation, energy. By measuring and reducing your carbon footprint with the Planet Mark, we have directly and measurably contributed to up to 8 SDGs addressing 14 SDG targets.

Planet Mark are partners with Cool Earth, the award-winning charity that works alongside indigenous communities to halt rainforest destruction, to protect an acre of rainforest for every new certification it delivers. The pledge through Cool Earth goes directly towards supporting the Asháninka community in Central Peru to support communities, prevent carbon emissions, preserve wildlife, and keep Earth’s climate in balance. Planet Mark also has a long-standing partnership with The Eden Project, to which a considerable donation is made to support educational sustainability programmes.
