Special Guardianship Order
A Special Guardianship Order appoints one or more individuals to be the child’s special guardian(s), granting them parental responsibility. Importantly, this order does not terminate the responsibilities of the child’s biological parents but provides stability and security for the child’s future.
This arrangement is often more suitable for children being cared for permanently by family members, such as grandparents, aunts, or uncles, or for older children who wish to maintain a connection with their birth families while still receiving long-term care. It offers legal permanence and stability without fully separating the child from their parents.
