South Devon’s tourism and hospitality sector has re-opened after more than three months of Lockdown which has cost businesses and the local economy millions of pounds. The government is recognising the damage being done to communities like the English Riviera and South Devon who are heavily reliant on tourism. Chancellor Rishi Sunak has only just announced a series of measures to help the industry including reductions in VAT and even trying to lure customers back into restaurants with special discount voucher schemes.
But what now for tourism and hospitality? What does the future look like as shutdown measures are relaxed? How can businesses move on and get back on track?
All these questions and more besides will be the subject of a special webinar being hosted by Wollens in partnership with the English Riviera BID company and chartered accountants Bishop Fleming featuring expert panelists able to give specialist advice.
Carolyn Custerson, chief executive of the English Riviera BID Company, will be talking about how businesses can Get Back on Track after months of turmoil. She will be looking at the latest data from the UK travel industry and offering practical advice to businesses on how they can adapt for a future post-Lockdown.
Simon Bean, a Partner and Head of Dispute Resolution at Wollens, has been advising local businesses on a number of difficult issues they have had to face during the pandemic. One hot potato has been the battle with insurance companies over failed claims for business interruption cover. Simon will be giving an update on a current test case, what stance the courts may be taking and what options are available to companies to address such issues.
Jon Dunkley, a Partner and Head of Employment at Wollens, has been making sure businesses comply in the ever-changing world of employment law. The government’s new flexible furlough scheme, home-working, when and how to bring people back to work and how to reshape a business if redundancies are needed will be just some of the areas he will be covering.
And last but not least we have Tim Godfrey, a Partner at Bishop Fleming and chairman of the English Riviera BID Company. Tim will be very much looking to the future – what funding is available for businesses, how new assistance for the unemployed from August will work, are companies prepared for the payback period and, crucially what measures are in place to support businesses in the winter of 2020 and early 2021.
