Hospital infection

Infections can sometimes be an unavoidable part of medical treatment and are not always negligent. However, acquiring an infection in a hospital or other care setting can be negligent if, for example, appropriate hand hygiene procedures were not followed, or a wound was not cared for properly, or if the infection was introduced post-surgery whilst being nursed on a ward.

Similarly, a failure to diagnose, or a delay in diagnosis of an infection can also give rise to a complaint. This can apply to care given either in hospital, or in a community setting, at the hands of a GP or another medical practitioner.

It is well publicised that infections can have catastrophic consequences, especially if they are not diagnosed and treated promptly. They can complicate recovery or have a lifelong impact.

Elizabeth and Catherine have many years of expertise in dealing with infection claims, including necrotising fasciitis, as well as claims involving a failure to diagnose or treat an infection. We have seen how devastating the aftermath of these infections can be. We will guide you through the legal process, and will offer a sympathetic ear and signposting to the most appropriate support services.
