Emma, was invited to join the board of Devon County FA earlier this year as their Legal Director.
Devon County FA is the not-for-profit body responsible for the development and governance of grassroots football in Devon. They work with the FA to deliver the national game strategy in our county, in line with a vision of enhancing life through football. Devon County FA has developed a three year strategy (2021 – 2024) outlining the immediate and longer term plans and priorities, the workforce is divided into two sectors: Football Development and Football services. Working together with volunteers they aim to unite and serve Devon football to provide an inclusive and enjoyable experience for all.
Whilst Emma’s role will be to give advice on legal issues should the need arise, she will also be working with the team and the board of directors to deliver on the six key priorities:
- Ensure Devon FA is safe, inclusive and diverse.
- Develop a sustainable and financially secure County FA to support football in Devon.
- Restart football following the pandemic, sustain and increase participation in all formats.
- Retain, enhance and develop new facilities in Devon.
- Increase and develop the workforce supporting Devon football.
- Improve the image of Devon FA and it’s impact and support for all football in Devon.
An FA qualified coach, Emma started her journey into football, coaching kids football on Saturday mornings with Braunton FC and has since gone on to play for Brauntons Ladies team
Emma has always had an interest in advising clients working in the leisure and sport industry, following her experience in the Sports Law department whilst training at Addleshaw Goddard which was further developed whilst working in house for the Commonwealth Games Committee. She has worked with multiple leisure and sports businesses since in every aspect of their business.
Emma prides herself on building long lasting relationships with her clients to understand their history and aspirations and to support them with clear and sound commercial and strategic advice delivered with common sense. Building trust is very important to her.
Emma said “I was delighted to be asked to take on this role, particularly after being reminded of the importance of community clubs when they were all closed in the lockdowns. Both my children play in leagues for Braunton FC and its great to be able to give back”
