The Rotary Club of Preston(Torbay) recently presented their annual Community Award to Jim Parker.
Jim was born in Hele, Torquay, went to Torquay Boys Grammar School, and has worked in the newspaper industry in London and locally for many years.
He started in the Mirror Group working for the Mirror and Sunday Independent.
He then moved back to Devon and carried out a number of positions, rising to be the Editor of The Herald Express.
He says he probably has written 2 million words over 40 years.
He was a great advocate of many charities including the Heart Appeal which raised £1m, and campaigned for the South Devon Link Road.
He continues to champion local sports activities.
Jim is currently Business Development Manager for Wollens solicitors.
