Wollens Trainee Solicitor Kieran McDermott Wins Gold at ITF European Championships
Kieran McDermott, a talented trainee solicitor at Wollens, has made waves by clinching a gold medal at the prestigious ITF European Championships, held recently in Cardiff. This remarkable achievement highlights not only Kieran’s dedication to his legal career but also his exceptional skills and commitment to Taekwondo, a sport he has been passionate about since childhood.
Kieran is a first-class law graduate with a degree in Law and Business from the University of the West of England (UWE). Outside of his legal pursuits, he holds a black belt in Taekwondo and competes in the lightweight category. Kieran has been training with Thornbury TKD, a renowned Taekwondo school based in Bristol, where he has trained diligently since he was just nine years old.
Reflecting on his journey, Kieran expressed his gratitude for the support he has received over the years. “I’ve been fortunate to train with Master Buxton, who is a top-class instructor and has helped me to hone my technique over the years,” Kieran said. “His guidance has been invaluable, especially in preparing for such high-level competitions.”
The ITF European Championships are known for their high level of competition, attracting top martial artists from across the continent. Kieran’s category was one of the most challenging, featuring a wide range of competitors aged 18 to 35 from various countries, including Ireland, The Netherlands, Belgium, and Poland.
Kieran faced four intense matches, after battling through to the final, Kieran found himself in a closely contested match that ended in a draw, with extra time. Demonstrating both his technical ability and his competitive spirit, Kieran managed to secure the gold medal!
Only a small percentage—about five percent—of ITF Taekwondo students actually compete in tournaments. His success at such a significant event is a testament to his dedication, skill, and the countless hours of training he has invested over the years.
As he continues his training, Kieran is also focused on completing his legal qualifications and advancing his career at Wollens, where he has already made a positive impact.
With this victory, Kieran McDermott has not only added a significant accolade to his already impressive list of achievements but has also shown the incredible results that can be achieved through perseverance and hard work. The team at Wollens is immensely proud of his success and looks forward to supporting him in both his legal career and his continued involvement in Taekwondo.
