In doing so Liz’s membership demonstrates her commitment to high professional standards and continued professional development.

Liz specialises in advising clients in relation to wills, trusts, Powers of Attorney, inheritance tax planning and estate administration.

Liz has a wealth of experience and completed her law degree and Legal Practice Course in the North West. Her work experience includes professional work in Cambridge and London before re-locating to Devon in 2004 and joined the probate department of a well-established South Devon firm. After taking time off to raise a family, she has joined the Private Client department at Wollens where she was an affiliate member of STEP whilst undertaking her Diploma.

After sitting four exams this year Liz was accepted as a full STEP member in November 2020 – a huge accolade for Liz particularly given the backdrop of Covid-19 including two national lockdowns.

The Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) is the worldwide professional body which promotes high professional standards and education for its members. Becoming a Full STEP Member is a benchmark many solicitors strive for: it is the top professional qualification for a Wills, Trusts and Probate solicitor. STEP members help families plan for their futures, from drafting a will to advising on issues concerning international families, protection of the vulnerable, family businesses and philanthropic giving. Full STEP members, known as TEPs, are internationally recognised as experts in their field, with proven qualifications and experience.

Lawyers wishing to qualify for the diploma need to have demonstrated a significant involvement at a specialist level in one or more of the following over the last two years: planning, creation, management of and accounting for trusts and estates, executorship administration and related taxes.

Liz said “I am delighted to have met the exacting standards of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP), demonstrating quality and varied professional experience alongside the rigorously assessed exams, to become a fully accredited member of STEP. Working hard to gain this qualification reflects the interest and passion I have for private client work, and most importantly a desire to provide the very best service for my clients”.

Katrina Vollentine is Head of the Private Client department at Wollens and said “ Liz has worked really hard to achieve this, and doing this qualification whilst working requires serious dedication and commitment to learning.  It’s testament to Liz’s work ethic and capabilities that she has achieved this qualification and it marks her out as a specialist in this area of work.  Clients can have confidence, when instructing Liz, that she has the experience and knowledge to carry out their instructions – and she does it in an approachable and sensitive way”.

This week STEP hosts the annual STEP private client awards which are seen as the hallmark of quality within the private client industry. All entries undergo a rigorous judging process with up to five finalists in each category. Judges are supported by an independent panel of experts comprising of internationally renowned practitioners in the wealth management arena. The winners will be announced at the Virtual Awards Ceremony on 9 December 2020.
