Elizabeth Larner, Clinical Negligence specialist at Wollens
Case Study
A settlement has been reached by Elizabeth Larner, Head of the Clinical Negligence Team at Wollens, on behalf of a gentleman who approached an independent eye surgery clinic seeking laser treatment to his eyes in order to improve his vision.
Whilst at the clinic he was instead encouraged to undergo multifocal lens implant surgery, on the basis that this would mean that he would no longer need to use contact lenses. The procedure was carried out and this resulted in a decline in the gentleman’s vision as opposed to an improvement. As a result of this, he had difficulties with driving at night and had to give up his job. He also became unable to enjoy his hobbies of reading and watching sport.
Elizabeth Larner said “I am delighted to have achieved this settlement for this gentleman. I have dealt with a number of similar cases before and so have witnessed how these procedures, which are sold as being so straightforward and with instant results, often provide an outcome which the patient was not expecting”.
The gentleman said “thank you very much for handling this case for me. You have clearly put an awful lot of work into this, in a very efficient manner, for which I am very grateful”.
