The Government has announced today that the furlough scheme will be extended by a further month to the end of April. Importantly for businesses, the Government will continue to pay 80% of wages (it was widely anticipated before the announcement that the employer’s contribution would increase from the end of January).
Employers should still remember that the furlough scheme in its present format cannot be used to pay employees’ statutory or contractual notice periods.
